A creative artist at the crossroads

Having lived in the Borinage all his life, visual artist Jean-Marie Mahieu has taken the concept of extraction to heart – the slow ascent to the surface, from darkness to light.

In order to create the secret alchemy of his graphic montages and paintings, the artist tirelessly searches memory, photographic materials and new media.
